les préparatifs

I don’t know when the trend began but two of my co-workers have begun to play terrible dance music in the morning. Now I can handle a bit of this… but they pick about the worst of the worst and I feel like I’m walking past some teenage-oriented clothing store in the mall.  Let me set the stage for you. I’ve just taken my seat in my new cubicle, I sip my coffee, realize I left  my desk keys at home and I can’t put away my bag. I’ve begun to check my email, wishing for more to do and since it’s quiet I begin dreaming about a time, three months from now when I’ll be on my merry way around the world and then it will be halted from the sound of the pseudo-euro beats.

Thankfully it isn’t long before I hear an accordion in my head or the sound of Edith Piaf’s voice to draw me back into my daydreams. Only three months of this dreary, grey, wet weather. Among other things here are a few things I’d like to do before I leave.

Photograph some Vancouver cityscapes to take with me
Set up a tripod for some group photos with my friends
Photograph my townhouse
Go down the street to this awful country bar with a group of girls to say I experienced my city
Read as many free books as I can
Sell my car
Adventure across this great country by train to see extended family
Skate on the Rideau Canal if I stop in Ottawa
Sew up some clothes so they are fashioned into new masterpieces for the road
And laugh, and laugh, and laugh and laugh again some more

Life is good and it’s only getting better.
