eedSometimes it’s hard to really give the proper emphasis to a certain adventures in life, especially those which aren’t overly planned. This will be one of those times.
Jérémie and I decided to go to the Lot and the Dordogne regions of France with only one initial destination – Cahors! We struck many of the “most beautiful villages of France” off our list, because yes, there is a list found here. If this is news to you, it was to me too.
We went Kayaking on the Dordogne, visited Pech Merle to see prehistoric cave paintings, witness troglodyte ruins of castles built in rock walls from the hundred years war. In the middle of nowhere we stumbled upon a “rock and roll night” past a farm and on the river with a beautiful view and surprisingly jam-packed with French vacationers. We were even invited into a little chapel with its stained glass windows paid for by Coco Chanel. Uncanny amounts of duck and foie gras and the local “black wine” otherwise known as Malbec from Cahors were consumed and we ate at some of the best restaurants I’ve been to in terms of quality and price in France. At least I can say we climbed many a staircase to explore the innumerable hilltop villages with castles, churches and shops all to be discovered. And a great way to work off our gourmandise!
